Profile from the frontline - Kevin A., Information Technology Manager
I work for TMC Technologies, Inc. (TMC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST). One of my responsibilities is to establish the Network and System security policy for TMC. My SANS training has been indispensable in helping me accomplish this important task. This training has provided the foundation for the establishment of our Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans. SANS provides real life scenarios and an industry point of view you cannot get from just reading a book.
Another one of my responsibilities is System Administrator on a government project called .National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Comprehensive Large Array-data Stewardship System (CLASS).. NOAA requires all of the CLASS System Administrators to take the GSEC training. Our SANS training has provided the common ground needed for us to establish a project wide security posture. This training has also provided us with the background in security needed to coordinate with the Information Technology Security Office (ITSO) and National Computer Incident Response Team (NCIRT) to ensure our project meets NOAA security guidelines.
I have been a System Administrator for 15 years, and have received many different types of training related to my position. The SANS training has been by far the most valuable in terms of providing the knowledge to properly implement the security measures required by my position.
