GAIPT Beta FAQs
What is the content of the exam?
The beta version of the GAIPT Certification was developed with the most recent version of the SANS SEC536 training course and its objectives in mind.
What is the structure of the exam?
The GAIPT is a 2-hour* exam comprised of multiple choice and CyberLive questions that must be completed in a proctored environment. All GIAC test-taking policies apply, including the Open Book Policy. *Exam length and structure are subject to change.
What preparation materials are provided?
GIAC will provide two practice tests that you may attempt at your discretion. Chrome is recommended for best experience; Firefox has performance issues when un-proctored.
No updated courseware, labs, or OnDemand access will be available for purchase for the GAIPT beta.
When can I take the exam?
Exam scheduling opens 11/16/2026. All GIAC beta tests must be completed in a proctored environment. Per the GIAC Exam Testing Modality clause of the GIAC Candidate Agreement, GIAC may specify proctoring conditions. Please review the GIAC scheduling guide for additional information. Appointments must be scheduled a minimum of 72 hours prior to desired test time.
How long do I have to complete the exam?
All GAIPT beta exams must be completed by 01/07/2027. There will be no exceptions or extensions.
There is no cost to participate in the GAIPT beta exam. However, failure to appear for a scheduled exam appointment may result in a seating fee to compensate GIAC for the testing center fees & other associated costs.
What happens if I am unable to schedule and/or complete the exam within the beta period?
The exam will be removed from your account at the deadline. Please note that free retakes of this exam are not available for non-completion of the beta.
Can I share this invite with others?
Beta participation is invite-only and non-transferable. If you are found to have shared this invite, all involved parties will be removed from the beta and will not be eligible for future betas.
When will I know my exam results?
Exam results will be delivered to all participants immediately following the public release of GAIPT in early February 2027. You will not receive your exam results immediately following the exam. Upon completion, your account will show a ‘Completed’ or ‘Passed’ status for the beta exam; this does not indicate a pass/fail status.
We are unable to disclose exact scores or provide performance feedback for beta exams.
What happens if I pass the exam?
If you achieve a passing score, you will earn the GAIPT certification, which will be valid for four years from the GAIPT public release date in early February 2027.
What happens if I fail the exam?
If you do not achieve a passing score, you will be offered a free GAIPT certification attempt following the GAIPT public release in early February 2027. This retake attempt will not include practice tests.
Can I share my unused practice tests?
Practice tests are non-transferable. Any unused practice tests and/or beta exam attempts remaining after 01/07/2027 will be deleted.
Am I allowed to discuss the content of the beta exam?
Any disclosure of any part of the beta test (including practice tests) is subject to disciplinary action by the GIAC Ethics Council.
Note: Space for this offer is limited and participation is non-transferable. Completion of registration form does not guarantee selection for participation.
