Securing HP-UX Services

The author describes two documents about security of HP-UX found on the GIAC web site: Securing HP-UX 11, by Larry Harker; and Building a Bastion Host Using HP'UX 11, by Kevin Steves. Both documents show how to secure a Hewlett Packard UNIX server (disabling services). But what happens if you need those (unsecured) services, such as: NIS, FTP, TELNET and use of modems. This paper shows some procedures to improve the security of these services and discusses other characteristics of HP-UX 11 that help to make more secure servers.
