Field Work Experience

Relevant work experience can demonstrate your application of a certification's objectives and ongoing competency in the Information Security field related to the certification(s) being renewed.

Unique aspects of work experience can be applied towards multiple renewals. For example:

  • A Penetration Testing Manager may use the management aspects of their job to earn 12 CPEs towards renewing their GSLC certification. Additionally, the technical pen-testing aspects of their job can earn 12 CPEs towards renewing their GWAPT certification.
Category Guidelines:
  • A maximum of 12 CPEs per renewal can be used from this category.
  • You must be in a relevant position for at least 1 year to qualify for the 12 CPEs, OR
  • You can earn 1 CPE per hour of completed special project work.
  • The CPEs earned from this category can be applied to 1 GIAC certification.
  • The field work experience must be completed within the four-year period in which your certification is currently valid.
Required Supporting Documentation:

Please submit any one of the following:

  • Professional Resume: should include employer name(s), job titles, and dates of employment.
  • Detailed write up of a work-related project completed: should include name of company, job role, and dates of project.
  • Progress or status report signed by supervisor: should include name of company, job role, and dates of work completed.

Only one piece of supporting documentation needs to be submitted for this category. You must include documentation as noted above at the time of submission. All CPE submissions and supporting documentation must be in English.
